Introduction to Expected Buffalo Training Camp Rosterology

Training camp practices for the Buffalo Sabres get underway today with preseason games starting this weekend. Throughout the years, we’ve put together a fun exercise of trying to figure out what the final roster will look like.

If you are not familiar with it, we call it Rosterology. Yes, it’s a play on ESPN’s Bracketology. We follow the same premise with the “Last 4 In” on the roster and the “First 4 Out.” The chart is updated throughout the preseason as games are played and comments from coaches. Players will move around as we try to guess what the final roster will be.

This year, the roster is basically set. However, there are a few spots that have not been finalized yet. Such as the goaltender behind Devon Levi, seventh defenseman, and final forward on the roster with Jack Quinn being injured. We’ll focus on those areas throughout the next few weeks.

The goal of this is to have some fun and have a discussion based on player performance ahead of the regular season. So, the chart below is how we’ll kick things off.

To kick things off, we gave Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Riley Stillman, Jacob Bryson, and Lukas Rousek the last four spots on the roster. Eric Comrie, Isak Rosen, Jiri Kulich, and Kale Clague are the top four on the outside looking in.

We’ll see if anyone from the “long shot players” section can move into the discussion for earning a roster spot.

The trend column will be updated up, down, or neutral based on how things unfold throughout the preseason.
