Rochester Amerks Full Season Update | 3/24/21

The Rochester Amerks have not played a game since March 10th. They’ve been dealing with Covid related issues. The Amerks themselves had a few players on the roster deal get the virus and as of late their last few games were postponed due to an outbreak on the Utica Comets.

We’ll see if they can get back on the ice Friday against the Syracuse Crunch. In the meantime, now feels like a good time to share a tracking data update through 10 games.

5v5 Shot Share and Quality

Takeaways

  • The Amerks struggle at 5 on 5. They’re outplayed in nearly every game and you can see that in the shot share numbers.
  • Arttu Ruotsalainen is the only player on the team to have over a 50% shot share at 5 on 5.
  • Oskari Laaksonen and Mattias Samuelsson remain in the high-event category but are no longer coming out on the winning end of that.
  • Jack Quinn usually flashes once or twice a game. However, the majority of the time the team is heavily outplayed when he’s on the ice. It’s not all his fault, of course. He’s not ready for this league yet and only 19-years-old.

Takeaways

  • The Amerks do a better job in shot quality share than shot share, but not by much.
  • Ruotsalainen continues to lead the team.
  • Once again we see some poor numbers here for Quinn, Laaksonen, and Samuelsson.

5v5 Primary Shot Contributions

Takeaways

  • Ruotsalainen made a big jump here from our last update. He’s on the heels of Steven Fogarty to overtake the lead in primary shot contributions.
  • Samuelsson remains the top defenseman on the roster in contributing to the offense.
  • Brett Murray has had a strong 10 games for the Amerks.
  • CJ Smith is up with the Sabres, but he hasn’t been the offensive force of years past.

5v5 Transition Defense

Takeaways

  • The inability of the Amerks defenders to make clean passes out of the defensive zone remains a huge issue. Nobody on the blue line measures out positively in controlled exits.
  • I took Bryson out of most of the charts because he’ll likely remain with the Sabres, but I left him in the entry defense chart for now. I wanted to show how his ability to defend the blue line has carried over from the AHL.
  • Laaksonen continues to be the best Amerks defender in entry defense.

5v5 Transition Offense

Takeaways

  • Ruotsalainen continues to excel in creating offense on the rush.
  • Ryan Scarfo has been impressive the last few games playing a fourth-line center role.
  • Brandon Biro is another forward that has shown some offensive flash in his game.
  • Samuelsson shows up here again with his offensive impact.
