New Subscription Process

Many of you have voiced displeasure with the current subscription process for the site using Patreon. I disliked using it as well for a variety of reasons but it was the only subscription solution that worked.

Well, that is no longer the case.

Memberships

A subscription process is now live on the site. If you go to the home page you’ll notice two new links at the top of the page or in the menu bar on mobile.

If you click the “subscribe” link it’ll bring you to the page below.

You can then choose a monthly membership for 5$ a month or the annual at a 10% discount. Now, the only difference on the annual here compared to Patreon is that you have to pay $5 now and then the remaining $49 will be charged in the next month’s billing cycle. The total would still be the $54 that is paid on Patreon.

Once you sign up for the membership, the other link will turn into a log-in/log-out link that you can use. All logins will now be done through the site and the Patreon loop of depth is gone.

Current Monthly Subscribers

For current monthly subscribers, you can cancel your subscription through Patreon and then sign up through the site directly. If you canceled today through Patreon, you’ll have access to the site for the remainder of the month.

Update: if you’re a current monthly subscriber, you’ll need to log in using the email and password that you use for Patreon. The site recognizes the email as being tied to the Patreon account.

Therefore, to avoid being charged twice for May, I’ve removed the initial payment for this month only when you sign up on the site. That allows you to make all the changes at one time and not be charged twice.

My advice would be to sign up through the Expected Buffalo website first to make sure there are no errors and then cancel your membership through Patreon.

Current Annual Subscribers

For annual subscribers on Patreon, at this point, my message to you is to keep your Patreon subscription. I’m going to keep Patreon active for a while as I look for options to transfer over annual subscribers. Initially, I didn’t think there was a way. However, recently I found something that could work. As I workshop this solution I’ll provide updates.

I hope to be able to just transfer over the subscriptions ASAP.

Update: I’ve confirmed that there is a way to transfer over annual subscribers. It will take me some time to do it, but you’ll receive an email when your account has been transferred over. Remember you’ll need to log in on this site using your Patreon email/password combination.

The Process

I did a lot of testing and hopefully worked out any potential bugs, but something may come up as this process is being rolled out. If you’re having issues signing up through the site directly, send me a DM through Twitter or just tweet at me. If I notice multiple people are having the same issue, I’ll post a solution to the particular issue on social media and update this article.

I’m excited to get this new process going and I hope you are too.
